but look at the cut on my other hand! I have a fairy Band-Aid!

Wow, nice cast! Purple and Pink? Cool!

Did you see my Band-Aid?! I have a CUT and fairies!!!

Apparently 2 1/2 year olds do not think breaking a bone or keeping a cast on for 4 weeks is a big deal.

Approximately four weeks ago Maiya broke her arm. She was playing around and fell hard right on her wrist. Clint was pretty sure it was broken. Me? I figured since she didn’t take a nap that she was overtired and being dramatic. Little kids don’t break bones! They’re like Gumby! Mean, mean Mom! We took her to Urgent Care where she proceeded to smile and try to use her injured arm. Me? Let’s get out of here before they charge us a co-pay! X-Ray? BROKEN, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, THAT SHIT IS BROKE. Maiya? Can I have a juice box?

after x-ray, before splint

she got her juice box, and a temporary splint with a cute animal print sling. fyi maiya doesn’t do slings

day 2: post splint, pre-cast

so the next day we headed to Children’s Hospital to get the cast. I was pretty sure that was not going to be a fun trip. WRONG! I don’t know about most Children’s Hospitals, but that place was amazing. Bright colors, cool furniture,(and not in the cheesy weird way that most pediatrician’s offices look like) free beanie babies at check-in and a trip to the toy room after the cast was put on. Maiya (and Mason) made out like bandits. Plus you get fancy cast!

fancy cast

and 4 weeks went by with a kid who ran around like she had some sweet new accessory, looking shocked when random people at the grocery store are like “WHAT HAPPENED, ARE YOU OK?” and her response every time is “I just fell and broke my wrist.” She just kept on moving, and running, and jumping, and making her brother give her piggy back rides, and falling off her brother, and generally making me crazy. but look at how sweet she is…

melts my heart

Then it was time to remove the cast. Whoooo boy! That was traumatic! All the advances in technology and medicine and we are still removing casts with a saw! I know it’s safe, but my two-year old did not believe that. Especially when it is so loud and your brother is in the background declaring that they are chainsawing his little sisters arm off. But it ended quickly and thanks to Dad and his super cool job, Maiya gets to wear the coolest wrist brace around.

Yup, that's a boa reel

and days after getting her cast off she is doing taekwondo

Ah!

There is no stopping this one.

Hallmark holiday, blah, blah, BLAaaH! Now that i have kids I’m a big fan. Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love. That’s a good thing. No doubt about it.

Our day will be filled with heart shaped food, silly cards, and lots of sparkles. Oh, yeah, and some strung out cats because apparently now they love catnip. Must be because it’s organic!

Sending you oodles of LOVE! Happy Valentines Day!

I am finally getting over my fear of buying large hunks of meat and making good use of my slow-cooker. Seriously, I made my first pot roast ever two months ago. I’ve been a Mom for over five years now and the only thing I make somewhat regulary in my crock-pot is steel cut oats. It’s time for a change! In my defense I have come a long way since my hot n ready pizza days ten years ago and my salad and sandwich and occasional Voila!(just add water) days five years ago. I make as much as I can from scratch and I am a crazy lady about the quality of any processed foods we eat. I don’t cook on Friday-that’s reserved for Chipotle and my sanity, but almost every other day of the week I manage to get dinner on the table. Not that its always good, or that everyone at the table loves it, but some nights we get close. I’m pretty sure Maiya hated this, but the rest of us loved it enough to make up for her negativity.

Simple recipe with interesting ingredients! Be careful when you buy prepared salsa, it almost always has preservatives in it. Garden Fresh almost always does not and its from Ferndale, MI! Also, Wholly Salsa is a good choice

Mason made us breakfast. All by himself. I was in another room. I had absolutely nothing to do with this. He even poured milk in there. I just can’t get over how much this kid does on his own now. I feel like I will blink and he will be taking the keys to the car to take his girlfriend to the movies. A flying car of course, to another planet where Moms are not allowed.

Getting ready to tour an elementary school, we hop in the car and Maiya says
“this is going to be FUN!”
Mason: Yeah, it will be, if you stop talking like I asked you to.
Maiya: but I’m a gurrrll. I talk!
Mason: I know, but you don’t have to tell me everything!
And then they went back and forth for a good five minutes. Maiya is not planning on limiting her talking anytime this century.

I told Mason he shouldn’t mess with an electrical outlet because he might get shocked.
“What will happen? It will hurt really bad and then my bones will show?”

Maybe we watch a tad too much Tom&Jerry?
